Shri Gajanan Maharaj Sansthan, Shegaon organizes the annual Palkhi procession to Pandharpur for Ashadi Wari. Thousands of Warkaris join this divine journey on foot. During this 33-day holy journey across Vidarbha and Marathwada, huge crowds of devotees gather for darshan.

Shri's Palkhi and the Great Tradition of Wari

According to the saint tradition of Maharashtra, there is an ancient custom of taking a Palkhi (palanquin) to Pandharpur for the Ashadi Wari. To preserve this noble tradition of the Warkari sect and to allow devotees to benefit from the pilgrimage, Shri Gajanan Maharaj Sansthan started the commendable initiative of taking Shri's Palkhi on foot to Pandharpur in 1968. Besides this, the Palkhi also travels by vehicle to Alandi, Trimbakeshwar, Paithan, and Muktainagar for Wari.

Thousands of Warkaris walk alongside Shri's Palkhi in the Pandharpur foot pilgrimage. Through this Dindi, devotion, knowledge, detachment, and wisdom are spread among the people. Many small villages along the route face issues like addiction, superstition, and ignorance; bringing a positive change in the villagers' lives by chanting Hari's name and creating spiritual awakening among them is a main objective of this Wari. Notably, a highly elegant and intricately crafted new silver Palkhi has been made by skilled artisans from Banaras for this foot pilgrimage, the sight of which fills the devotees' hearts with overwhelming emotion.
