History & Significance

According to historical records, Shri Gajanan Maharaj first appeared in Shegaon on 23rd February 1878. He is regarded as an incarnation of Lord Ganesha and Dattatreya by his devotees.

The Sansthan was established in 1908 during his lifetime. The gathered crowds were so disciplined that Lokmanya Tilak, who visited in 1917, praised the management, a legacy that continues today as one of the cleanest and most disciplined temples in India.

Temple Architecture

The present temple is a magnificent structure built in marble. The Samadhi of the Maharaj is located in the basement (Garbhagriha), while his Padukas are kept for Darshan on the upper floor. The temple complex includes a large Sabha Mandap for devotees to sit and meditate.

Temple Overview
